Snowdon Charity Walk 2023
Conquering Mount Snowdon for a Cause: WeareJa.co.uk Team’s Epic charity walk in Support of the Pseudo Obstruction Research Trust.
On Saturday 13th May 2023, some of the team from JA embarked on a tough challenge – to climb the legendary PYG track up Mount Snowdon. Their goal was not only to conquer Wales’ highest peak but also to raise much-needed funds for the Pseudo Obstruction Research Trust (PORT). A real test of their endurance, the team embarked on a journey that would test their physical limits at the same time as raising funds.
The Cause: The Pseudo Obstruction Research Trust (PORT) is a charitable organisation committed to supporting research and raising awareness about pseudo obstruction, a rare and debilitating gastrointestinal disorder. The trust aims to provide hope, support, and advancements in treatment for those affected by this condition.
As if climbing Mount Snowdon wasn’t challenging enough, the JA team faced an additional obstacle: tackling the hike on the hottest day of the year so far. The scorching temperatures added an extra layer of complexity to an already demanding feat. Nevertheless, the team’s commitment to their cause remained unshaken. Undeterred by the sweltering heat, they embraced the challenge.
Preparation and Training: Conquering Mount Snowdon required careful planning and physical conditioning. We’d love to say that the team dedicated months to preparing for this arduous trek and undertook a rigorous training programme that included endurance exercises, cardiovascular workouts, and strength training to ensure they were physically and mentally prepared for the demanding ascent. But that didn’t happen! Alex McMillan, Operations Director, stated that it was the most physical challenge she had ever done and no amount of hours on a cross trainer or stair machine at the gym would ever prepare her for the scrambling over rocks and the final ascent up the mountain.
The PYG Track: A Majestic Path to the Summit: The PYG Track, one of the most popular routes up Mount Snowdon, offers stunning vistas. Stretching over 3.8 miles, the path presented an array of challenging terrains, including steep ascents, rocky sections, and uneven ground. Navigating through these obstacles, we drew inspiration from the breath taking landscapes, fuelling our determination to reach the summit.
Overcoming Challenges: The combination of the heat and the demanding terrain made the climb particularly gruelling. However, our team’s spirit remained unwavering. We supported and motivated each other throughout the journey, demonstrating the strength of teamwork and camaraderie. Despite the physical strain and fatigue, they kept their eyes firmly fixed on their ultimate objective — raising funds and awareness for the Pseudo Obstruction Research Trust.
Creating Lasting Impact: The JA team appreciates each and every individual and company who contributed to this cause. Whether it was a small or substantial contribution, your belief in their mission and willingness to support their efforts have been truly inspiring. The funds raised for the Pseudo Obstruction Research Trust will help drive scientific research, improve treatment options, and enhance the lives of those affected by this debilitating condition. By sharing our journey, we hope to create awareness and encourage others to join the cause.
And if you fancy giving the PYG track a go – details can be found here but the team at JA are still recovering from blisters and sunburn and are recommending the train up the mountain! However it was great to see the team get from behind their desks writing payroll code and challenge themselves. Thankfully no Umbrellas were needed and we could climb the mountain safe in the knowledge that our cloud based CIS, umbrella and PAYE payroll, and contractor accounting software was enabling providers to provide a compliant and reliable service from anywhere in the world.
